I am beginning my 16th year at Bergen Meadow and have taught for over 25 years in Arizona and Colorado.  I received my bachelor’s degree from the University of Arizona in Home Economics Education, and then returned to school after four years of teaching high school to get certified in Elementary Education.  I have also taught fifth and second grades, and this will be my eleventh year teaching kindergarten here at Bergen Meadow. I also cherish the 11 years I was a stay-at-home mom!

I have been married for 37 years to my husband who is a retired pilot.  We have three grown daughters, a son-in-law, and two granddaughters (4yr. and 7 years old.)  We moved to Colorado in 1999 from Tucson, Arizona where I had lived for forty years. My family lived in Evergreen for nine years, and now we live in Golden. My hobbies include gardening, reading, quilting, history, Tai Chi and Aqua Ai Chi.

I love to create new activities to make learning fun as well as build foundational skills.  I love teaching kindergarten because I can sing every day and share my love of reading through wonderful picture books.  I also love teaching children to think critically in math, science and social studies.  I have a knack for identifying student learning styles (perhaps because I am dyslexic myself) and providing them many opportunities and support for success.  Three years ago I completed district ESL (ELL) certification through Regis.  A love of learning is a passion I hope to pass on to each of my students so they will develop a thirst for life-long learning.

We believe in developing the "whole" child. Encouraging and guiding their academic, physical, emotional and social being. There is so much to learn in kindergarten! Smiles on faces of happy kids learning...that's the gift of teaching. Creating a classroom environment that fosters a love for learning, is our teaching philosophy.

Hello! My name is Kim Silvestri and I’m so looking forward to working with your child this year! I’ve lived in the Evergreen area for over 20 years, so we’ve probably passed each other several times at the grocery stores and lake concerts. However, I’m sure I’ll be a new acquaintance to many, so I’ll tell you a little about myself.

I got my undergraduate degree from UNM in German, but found along the way that my heart was in teaching. What a great profession! This marks my 11th year teaching (3 years at first grade and 8 at kindergarten). I also completed my master’s degree in elementary reading and literacy. I view every child coming into my room as a truly unique individual with so many strengths and gifts. I am privileged to work with each one of them.

When I’m not teaching, I can be found hanging out with my husband, John, and my two kids, Sean (15) and Jason (11). We love hiking, fishing, camping, mountain biking, skiing, and just about every other Colorado pursuit. If you have any secret fishing spots or campgrounds you’d like to share I’d love to hear about them!
